Chondroitin, Glucosamine, & MSM - September 24th, 2009

Glucosamine and Chondroitin are two really good joint supplements that when used in conjunction with each other can work great at treating whats referred to as wear-and-tear arthritis.  Both of these are sold over the counter at your local pharmacy.  No, they do not regenerate any lost tissue or cartilageand you will not be cured by taking these supplements but they are safe.  They have been rigorously tested and if your symptoms are mild but still plaguing you then try taking them for a month or two.

If they haven’t helped you by then, they aren’t going to help you.   The main benefit of these supplements is that they act as an anti-inflammatory.  If they can curb your inflammation then your pain will be less severe.   There is a newer, less tested, supplement now available commonly referred to as MSM.  Methylsulfonylmethane is believed to support healthy ligaments.  It is said that it aids your body in maintaining healthy and flexible ligaments however its biggest downfall is the fact that there have been no clinical trials unlike aforementioned Glucosamine and Chondroitin.

If you are in the market for a safe supplement for joints, try Glucosamine and Chondroitin.  Personally I’d much rather go with a board approved supplement than one that might not pass muster or leave me worse off.  They are less expensive than they used to be and are available without a prescription.  My grandmother swears by the stuff…..
